ABOUT

A first generation American of Burmese ethnicity, Vanessa Gavalya has distinguished herself by capturing life's emotions. She has enjoyed shooting a variety of advertising assignments for clients including Dell Computers, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Pizza-Hut, Bank of America, FedEx Office, Frito-Lay, and Playskool. She shot George Strait's cd cover, "Twang", as well as many of his other images which have appeared on magazine covers and CDs. She continues to shoot from coast to coast, but always hurries back to Dallas, where she calls home.

Vanessa started her photography career in front of the camera --- as a model. During her years of modeling, she was exposed to the styles and techniques of countless photographers. This experience also helps her better understand how her subjects feel.

Post college, Vanessa worked at a couple ad agencies including Foote, Cone & Belding. It was her time in advertising that taught her about the client perspective. As a photographer, she started by shooting weddings, family portraits, and actor headshots. This is where she honed her skills, learned to think quickly while shooting, and mastered the way she likes to direct "real people" on set. Her unique ability to capture life’s emotions and the essence of the moment is readily apparent in her advertising work. This is what sets her work apart.

Vanessa graduated from UT Austin with high honors, a Bachelor of Science in Advertising, and the distinction of being a Senior Fellow. She is especially honored by the awards her photography has received.
